Our
Mission:
To provide
a facility and offer opportunities where Jesus Christ can be personally
experienced in the hearts of individuals in the Finchville and
surrounding area and to maintain and strengthen that relationship
throughout life.
History:
It began
when a group of persecuted Christians fled Spotsylvania County,
Virginia, refusing to pay a tax to the bishop. In 1799 Buck Creek
Baptist was formed at what is now, the northeast corner of Hwy. 148 and
the Buck Creek. The cemetery still remains to this day.
In 1821 a new
sanctuary was built within the hamlet of Finchville about a mile away at
the current site. In 1891 the present brick sanctuary was built
upon the same site.
In 1946 an educational annex containing Sunday school rooms and office
space was added and in 1992 a separate fellowship hall containing a
kitchen, nursery, office, and additional Sunday school rooms was built.
In 1999 the
educational annex was renamed to the Wayne & Mary Ann Ward Educational
Building in honor of their lifelong dedication to Finchville Baptist.
This is also the same year that we celebrated 200 years of service to
the community.
